If you or someone you love is not in immediate danger, or if you simply want more information, below is a list of places you can go to volunteer or get more information.

Disclaimer: Know that nothing you do will make you feel 100% whole again until you fully process what has happened. This sounds negative, but for me, this revelation was a turning point.

That said, below are a few places you can volunteer. Again, please consider your mental health before you sign up. Make sure you are truly able to help, mentally, before you continue.

NAMI

National Alliance on Mental Illness has a chapter nearly everywhere. Check their site to see if there is any way you can help — from donating to volunteering. Their site also provides useful information on mental health awareness. Outside of their site, they also host Survivors of Suicide support groups.

Lifeline

Lifeline is a network of local crisis centers who are looking for people to talk with those in crisis. Lifeline also has other ways to volunteer listed on their site, as well as provides useful information on suicide awareness, prevention, and statistics. As I mentioned before, only do this if you are ready. The only way you can truly help someone is if you are mentally stable enough to do so. I would still not consider myself ready to do something like this.

Suicide Prevention Resource Center

This site seeks to prevent suicide through education. They provide helpful courses both online and in person on assessing and managing suicide risk. They also provide useful information on suicide awareness, prevention, and statistics.

Suicide Support Groups

Here is a list of suicide support groups in Wisconsin.
