I was in Pittsburgh March 3 at Mystery Lovers Bookshop, an independent book shop (whose customers seem more like family than simply avenues for revenue) and March 4 at Jack’s (this one held personal significance because a major turning point in my book happened right in this bar, and they were incredibly supportive when I proposed this idea to them).
NAMI Keystone actually reached out to me before I reached out to them, telling me to contact them as soon as I’m in the area. I messaged them immediately, and they messaged me back right away. This energy did not change when I was in the city, during my events. Not only were they incredibly helpful in explaining their programs when customers asked, but also, they’re passionate about what they’re doing. They showed me this simply through their energy–in talking about their initiatives in speaking on mental health in high schools, as well as sharing their own personal struggles. Yet another example of incredibly awesome people making an awesome impact on their community.
In total, we raised $130 for NAMI Keystone.
