NAMI Milwaukee: This is my hometown NAMI chapter, so naturally they are the ones I’m closest with. Since I told them what I was doing, they have welcomed me with open arms. As with other chapters, they emphasize peer-to-peer programs, knowing the best advice often comes from someone who has experienced something similar.
Sugar Maple was particularly important to me because, unlike other signings, I read my story in front of people I see every day–Sugar Maple is my creative home in the city, where I have a local writing group each week, and many of my hometown friends came out to support me for the event.
