NAMI Dane County : This was a difficult one for me to visit, but holds personal significance to me because Madison is where I found Jake. This car drive from Milwaukee to Madison is always difficult, no matter how much time passes.
NAMI Dane County is actually the founding NAMI chapter–where it all started. Their emphasis on peer-to-peer support groups and their passion to keep the mental health conversation open, not only in suburbs of Madison but also the rural areas, in older populations as well as school age kids, is pretty incredible. Their staff of three is a force to be reckoned with.

I will be returning here soon, on my tour with my second book. Unlike other cities on this second tour, I will give all proceeds to NAMI Dane County once I’ve found a place. I will update donation proceeds at that time, but we’re off to a great start!
