When: January 10-11

Where: The Mill, Uptown Bills

NAMI Johnson Co: What I found unique about NAMI Johnson County is how readily they worked with other organizations within their proximity–often times, a few shops down. The crisis center is only a few doors down. They are able to combine resources in order to make a more effective impact. Not only that, but they also emphasize how important it is to work peer-to-peer, meaning groups lead by someone who has experienced something similar. They’re also incredibly awesome people, so I’m sure they’re making an incredible difference within their community.

The strange thing about this tour is, to me, a successful signing doesn’t mean hoards of people show up to buy my book. My favorite are the intimate ones, where we’re able to have a conversation about what we have all struggled with, and how we all deal with the day-to-day struggles. My signing at The Mill was just that–those who showed up stayed for the entire time, and we talked for even amounts of time. We all have such different stories, but we can all gain from what someone else has shared, even if their struggles are completely different than ours. I hope to be back soon and I hope to meet these people again.
