I was in Cleveland on March 14 The B-Side on March 14, in a collaborative event with The People Cleveland Poetry Slam, from 6-9pm. If you’re in the area, this is a pretty awesome local spoken word event that happens in the basement of the Grog Shop.
NAMI Cleveland, much like the other chapters, was incredibly supportive as soon as I told them what I was doing. I wish I could have spent more time talking with Lisa, the Developmental and Special Events Coordinator at NAMI Cleveland, however the downside of this tour is I still have my day job, and I met with them over my lunch hour. Even in thirty minutes, Lisa was able to give me a rundown of their family based programs–even partnering with local nonprofit Connecting For Kids to better reach families who have children with diagnoses. This is what I found most unique about this chapter–their emphasis on educating families on how to better help their children and loved ones who are living with diagnoses.
